Night markets to continue in Male'

Male' City Council has decided to allow night markets to be held in accordance with the standards set by Health Protection Agency (HPA).

In a press statement issued, the city council had granted permission to those who requested to hold night markets in the areas designated in Male' and Hulhumale'. The city council said a decision was made earlier to suspend the permits for night markets upon request of the HPA. However, the council has revoked the decision upon request of businesses, so that organisers can hold night markets in compliance with the guidelines set by the HPA.

Issuing permits for events such as night markets had been halted over the past two years to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. HPA has advised strengthening preventive measures against COVID-19 as the new Omicron variant has been spreading across the country.
