Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has stated efforts are being undertaken to increase career opportunities for youth at the Maldives Police Service (MPS). He made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the career exploration programme held by the youth ministry and MPS.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Mahloof said the government is working to provide opportunities in various fields to prepare young people for the job market. The minister called on the youth to make full use of these opportunities and to build a better future for themselves. He also said the ministry and MPS is in discussions to provide opportunities for youth in the police service.
Minister Mahloof said the government was unable to hold an adequate number of career exploration programmes in the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the minister said many similar programmes will be held for various sectors within the next year. He also thanked the senior police officers and the heads of department for carrying out a successful career exploration programme.
A total of 22 young individuals participated in the two-day programme, which consisted of information sessions regarding career opportunities in the MPS, and the details of the work of police officers. The participants also joined in field visits to various police departments and observed their work.
