Speaker Nasheed reveals his children are worried about his security

Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has revealed his two children have been the most worried about his security since he was severely injured in the May 6 terrorist attack.

At a press conference, Speaker Nasheed noted the numerous concerns from the public on his personal security and current accommodation. Nasheed said he is also concerned about his current situation and that his wish is to live in his own home. However, he said the national security services cannot abide by his wish due to the current security risk.

Speaker Nasheed detailed that security services have made the decision to designate a large number of armed guards to escort him. He added that his children approve the decision that strengthens his personal security.

Furthermore, the speaker said the security services have also advised him not to announce any decision to leave the country. He also said the government remains steadfast in safeguarding Maldivians from any threat and that he greatly approves the efforts to strengthen national security.
