Ali Hussain replaces Riyaz at national security services committee

Parliamentarian Ali Hussain has replaced Abdulla Riyaz for the slot reserved for members of the Jumhooree Party (JP) in the Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services.

The Secretariat of the Parliament announced the change after Riyaz officially submitted his resignation from JP at the start of the new session. Seats in the parliamentary committees are allocated according to the number of party representation in the parliament.

Further changes have been made to the national security services committee by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), with Ilyas Labeeb replacing Imthiyaz Fahmy and Ali Azim replacing Hisaan Hussain in the committee. Ilyas Labeeb and Ali Azim were previously members of the committee but were temporarily sidelined as part of the inquiry into the security breach related to the May 6 terrorist attack against Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

The Secretariat of the Parliament also announced changes to the register of members for the new session. The register of members was changed after parliamentarians Mohamed Nazim and Abdulla Riyaz resigned from JP. They left JP to form a new party and following their resignations, JP currently has three members in Parliament.

The new register shows Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) with 65 members, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) with six members, People's National Congress (PNC) with three members, and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) with two members, as well as eight independent members.
