Government will ensure safety of expatriates working in the Maldives: Vice President

Vice President Faisal Naseem has affirmed the government will ensure the safety of expatriates working and residing in the Maldives.

The vice president made the remarks during his meeting with the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives Rear Admiral Nazmul Hassan, who paid a courtesy call on the vice president on October 19 at the President’s Office.

During the meeting, Vice President Naseem congratulated the high commissioner on his appointment and expressed his gratitude towards the Government of Bangladesh for their friendly relations and assistance provided to the Maldives. The vice president highlighted the positive contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates working and residing in the Maldives and thanked the Government of Bangladesh for their ongoing support to the Maldives' worker regularisation and repatriation programs. Citing the high number of Bangladeshi workers contributing to the workforce of the Maldives, the vice president stated that the government will ensure the safety and security of all expatriates working and residing in the Maldives.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Nazmul Hassan also thanked the Government of the Maldives for the effort and assistance provided to help Bangladeshi nationals working and residing in the Maldives during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The vice president and high commissioner discussed taking forward bilateral cooperation in a range of fields from higher education, agriculture and other avenues for increased cooperation and collaboration.
