Parliamentary Committee approves to dismiss 2 Supreme Court Judges

Parliamentary Committee on Judiciary has approved the decision of Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to dismiss Chief Justice Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi and Supreme Court Judge Adam Mohamed Abdulla after suspending them for 60 days.

Their dismissal was recommended to the parliament by JSC based on the findings of the investigation into judges over their disciplinary actions. The committee reviewed the recommendation and decided JSC made the decision in accordance with the procedures followed.

A probe from JSC found both judges have violated the code of conduct of the judges. Based on clause 154b of the constitution, their acts do not hour the respect and trust for the judiciary and violates the principles of judgeship and hence JSC recommended the parliament to dismiss them with regards to clause 31-1 of the Judicial Service Commission Act. They have also been suspended for 60 days to ensure public trust in the judiciary given the nature of their case.

JSC publicised it is currently probing into 51 cases of 4 judges including 18 cases of Chief Justice Dr Ahmed Abdulla Didi and 14 cases of Judge Abdulla Areef.
