Fenaka Corporation Limited has begun installing generator engines in 5 islands in efforts to strengthen the electricity network.
The generators were sent to Villingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Fonadhoo and Gan in Laamu Atoll and Guraidhoo in Thaa Atoll earlier this month. Fenaka revealed efforts to install the generator in Fonadhoo has commenced, while installing generators in Gan and Guraidhoo will commence in the coming days.
However, the state=owned utility company said the generators in Thinadhoo and Villingili can only be installed after dispatching more equipment to the islands. Fenaka sent a 1 megawatt generator for the power houses in Villingili, Thinadhoo and Fonadhoo, while 800 kilowatt generators were provided for the power houses in Gan and Guraidhoo.
The company said the new generators will boost the efforts to provide uninterrupted electricity services to the growing population in the islands. Fenaka provides electricity to 149 islands in Maldives.
By last May, Fenaka had spent over USD 9 million to improve its services.
