President of the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances Husnul Suood has stated the cases on the murder of blogger Yameen Rasheed and disappearance of journalist Ahmed Rilwan will be forwarded to Prosecutor General's Office by the end of July. Husnul Suood made the remarks while speaking to PSM News when asked about the changes brought to the progress following the decision of the parliament to grant legal authority to the commissions.
Previously, Husnul Suood revealed several cases from the 25 cases under investigation have been concluded, although he did not disclose any further details. However, he mentioned the motive of the cases have been identified.
Speaking on the passing of the bill to grant legal powers to presidential commissions, Suood said it will serve to speed up the process of the mandated tasks of the commissions. He expressed the bill grants authority to forward cases to Prosecutor General's Office to raise charges, adding new information will be revealed relevant to the cases submitted.
Suood further revealed although noteworthy progress have been made in the investigation of the murder of Yameen Rasheed and disappearance of Ahmed Rilwan, more work needs to be done. He also expressed hope to make several developments in the investigation of murdered former parliamentarian and religious scholar Dr. Afrasheem Ali.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih established the Commission on Investigation of Murder and Enforced Disappearances, in an effort to carry out the responsibilities in ensuring justice for all, by conducting independent investigations for unresolved cases.
