Stakeholders Explore Fish Exports to China via Wide-Body Aircraft

Discussions have been held to explore opportunities to export Maldivian fish products to China via the national flag-carrier, Maldivian’s new wide-body aircraft.

The discussions were held between the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO), Maldives State Shipping (MSS), Maldivian, and key stakeholders from the fisheries industry.

The Fisheries Ministry said the discussion was aimed at increasing export opportunities for the fisheries sector.

With the national airline now operating direct flights to three destinations in China, exporting fish products via these flights is expected to boost state revenues from exports. In addition, the benefits of the free trade agreement between China and Maldives will be further maximised.

According to the Maldivian, 10 tonnes of cargo can be carried on the wide-body flights. These flights will also bring additional benefits to Maldivian businesses, both in terms of import and exports.
