Islamic conference on terrorism to be held next month

Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has revealed plans to organise the first ever Islamic Conference on Terrorism.

The Islamic Conference will be held from April 14 to 16 in Kurumba Maldives, Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar revealed addressing a press briefing held by National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC). Minister Adam Shareef Umar noted the conference titled "Role of Moderation in Countering Terrorism and Promoting Peace and Security" would see participation of key personals from over 16 countries. The Defence Minister highlighted the conference is a major effort of the government to tackle terrorism and violent extremism by collaborating with international stakeholders.  

Furthermore, the Minister adviced personals involved in expanding local tourism in the country to follow the principles of the constitution and the culture of Maldives. He concluded by highlighting that Maldives is a country which follows principles of moderation and urged the public to support the administration to become exemplary in its efforts to tackle terrorism and violent extremism.
