President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has conveyed felicitations to the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena on the occasion of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka.
In the message, President Abdulla Yameen extended warm felicitations and sincere good wishes to President, the Government and the friendly people of Sri Lanka on behalf of the Government and the people of Maldives on the auspicious occasion of the Independence Day.
Expressing the special bond of friendship based on history, shared values, understanding and mutual trust shared by Maldives and Sri Lanka, the President noted that the relations between the two countries have been fortified over the years, and have led to greater cultural engagement between two countries with heightened people to people contact.
Highlighting that both countries have stood by each other in times of need and joy as a close and friendly neighbour, President Yameen expressed confidence that two countries are committed to further strengthening the close relationship and to develop economic cooperation and work hand in hand for regional stability, peace and progress.
On conclusion of the message, President extended best wishes to the President of Sri Lanka with hopes of continued success and good health, and further prosperity and welfare of the people of Sri Lanka.
