The new council office building of Kurinbi, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, has been officially inaugurated.
The building was opened by Mohamed Nimal, Chief Executive Officer of the Local Government Authority (LGA) and Kurinbi Council President Abdulla Aslam. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior LGA officials, fourth-term councillors and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members as well as the newly elected fifth-term councillors and WDC members.
The council office project was funded through the LGA’s Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) budget. The total project cost was USD 382,620.
Speaking about the project, Nimal said the project contract was signed in September 2023, before the current administration took office. However, only two percent of the project had been completed when the new administration took over. He stated that 98 percent of the work was completed after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assumed office.
According to Nimal, the previous council office building was over 32 years old. The old building created difficulties in delivering services efficiently due to a lack of space and resources, and there were significant challenges to introducing modern services, he noted.
The new building includes modern facilities and a larger workspace. According to the council, the office is expected to improve staff working conditions, enhance public service delivery and provide a long-term solution to previous service challenges.
