The first President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM), Ahmed Saleem, has presented his book HRCM’s Memories to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The book was officially launched by President Muizzu during a meeting held at the President’s Office this morning.
HRCM’s Memories documents the establishment of the Human Rights Commission in the Maldives and reflects on Ahmed Saleem’s five-year tenure as its first President. The publication also provides detailed accounts of key events that took place during the Maldives’ historic transition to democracy.
The first Human Rights Commission in the Maldives was established in 2003 through a Presidential Decree. Ahmed Saleem was among the first members appointed to the commission. He later became the first President of the independent Human Rights Commission formed under the new Constitution.
The book is expected to serve as an important reference on the development of human rights in the Maldives, while also contributing to the historical record of the establishment and evolution of state institutions.
