PSI programmes comprise government-funded development projects involving investments amounting to millions of dollars.

According to weekly fiscal reports issued by the Ministry of Finance and Planning, the largest share of PSI expenditure in 2025 was allocated to the transport sector.

The transport sector covered development works related to ports, bridges, and airports, with airport development accounting for the majority of spending, totalling USD 220,101,618.

Sector-wise, the highest expenditure was recorded in transportation at USD 304,258,119. This was followed by land reclamation projects amounting to USD 77,682,924, environmental protection projects totalling USD 45,056,095.92, and health sector projects at USD 29,778,454.20.

Spending on water and sewerage systems reached USD 23,693,291.82, while housing projects accounted for USD 13,206,097.08.

The parliament-approved budget allocation for PSI programmes stands at USD 802,723,548.

The Maldives Monetary Authority noted that the reduced spending on PSI programmes reflects stronger controls on fund allocations for development projects.

The government has also stated that the benefits of PSI initiatives will be evaluated.
