Over 20,000 tourists from Russia, marking a 23 percent increase

Over 20,000 tourists from Russia have visited Maldives to date this year, accounting for the greatest shares in tourist numbers at present.

Daily update reports released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MoTE) show that 20,529 travellers visited the Maldives from Russia until 19th January. This marks a 23.9 percent increase compared to 2025, with 15,614 tourists.

Overall, 15 percent of tourist arrivals to the country were from Russia. In second place, is Italy with 15,273 travellers, while the United Kingdom comes in third at 11,792 arrivals.

The greatest increase in tourist numbers was seen from China, comprising of the majority of travellers to Maldives in 2025. However, in the first two weeks of 2026, China has dropped to 6th place in traveller figures, but figures are improving as its current ranking is in 4th place with 9,366 arrivals.

According to data, 135,555 tourists have visited the nation in 2026 to date, an 8.2 percent increase in comparison to the 125,339 in 2025. On average, 7,134 travellers visit the Maldives per day.
