Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the land reclamation of the picnic island being developed in the lagoon of Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll.
The land reclamation and shore protection project of Maafushi Picnic Island was commenced by MTCC last month. The project involves reclaiming 2 hectares of land and developing shore protection around the reclaimed island. The aim of the project is to provide an island where the public could go on picnics and hold recreational activities.
MTCC revealed the land reclamation component of the project has now been completed. The state-owned company said the development of shore protection around the island is now underway, noting the first shipment of rock boulders needed for the project has been delivered to site.
The reclamation and shore protection of Maafushi Picnic Island is carried out at a cost of USD 700,000.
