The Maldives National University (MNU) has awarded scholarships to 13 students who have achieved outstanding results in various fields of study.
MNU allocates USD 97.04 million from its annual budget for scholarships, with the aim of easing the financial burden faced by students pursuing higher education.
The university currently offers three main types of scholarships: tuition fee scholarships, which exempt students from paying course fees for the duration of their studies; full scholarships, which provide students with a monthly financial allowance in addition to covering course fees; and the Martyrs’ Award, which has been awarded since 1999 to commemorate the martyrs of 3 November 1988. The Martyrs’ Award is a special award given to students who achieve the best results in their first semester.
At today’s ceremony, four students were awarded undergraduate full scholarships, two students received undergraduate tuition fee scholarships, five students received postgraduate tuition fee scholarships, and two students received the Martyrs’ Award. With the newly awarded scholarships, a total of 46 students are currently studying under MNU scholarship programmes.
Speaking at the ceremony held to present the scholarship letters, MNU Registrar Mohamed Laamir advised the students to make the best use of the opportunity they had been given, complete their courses successfully and contribute to nation-building as exemplary graduates.
The Maldives National University, established in 1973 and granted university status in 2011, is the country’s oldest and largest higher education institution. MNU plays a leading role in developing skilled and qualified professionals in fields vital to national development and currently offers a wide range of programmes through its various faculties and centres.
