Gov't currently developing 6,000 housing units

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed 6,000 housing units are currently under development across the Maldives. He made the statement while speaking to PSM News after the Maldives Investment Forum at the Expo 2020 in Dubai, UAE.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister Aslam said three government housing projects with 5,000 units are ongoing in Hulhumale' and smaller housing projects to develop 1,000 housing units are also ongoing in various parts of the Maldives. He detailed the government has allocated the funding for the projects and that the 6,000 housing units will be completed by 2023. The government also plans to begin the development of 10,000 more housing units in 2023, he detailed.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced in June that funds have been allocated to develop 4,000 housing units in the Greater Male' Region. The government housing plan includes categories for council housing, affordable housing, and midrange housing.
