President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said he will listen to people’s concerns and work to address them within existing policies.
He made the remarks during the first episode of the “Rayyithunge Adu” programme.
The programme is intended to allow people from different areas and backgrounds to meet and speak directly with the President about personal and public-interest matters. Meetings are arranged based on the number of requests, available time and administrative arrangements at the President’s Office.
Participants in the first episode raised concerns about the lack of housing, access to medicines, and career progression.
An individual with disabilities raised concerns over the lack of accessibility for people with disabilities, particularly wheelchair access to mosques. He also highlighted the poor quality of wheelchairs provided through the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
President Muizzu acknowledged the concerns and said they were important issues. He assured that he would work to find ways to address them.
On housing, the President said priority would be given to people who currently have no opportunity to secure housing, adding that the government is exploring options to build additional flats.
The President encouraged the public to use the programme to share concerns, ideas and issues directly with him, saying he would try to meet as many people as possible.
