British Airways has resumed flights following the removal of the Maldives from the travel red list of the United Kingdom (UK).
British Airways temporarily halted operations to the Maldives in May due to the COVID-19 restrictions, resulting in Maldives being included in the UK travel red list. The UK government removed the Maldives from its travel red list on September 22. British Airways will hold three weekly flights to the Maldives.
Starting from September 22, Maldivian travellers to the UK will not have to undergo a quarantine period upon their arrival to the country. Meanwhile, double-vaccinated people will no longer have to take a COVID test before they return to the UK from the Maldives. Later in October, travelers will also be able to take a cheaper lateral flow test instead of the PCR test.
The UK is one of the leading markets in terms of arrivals to the Maldives and ranks in the top 10 markets for tourist arrivals so far in 2021.
