The installation of a water system in Holhudhoo, Noonu Atoll, has been completed.
The project started in 2019 but was left unfinished at the end of the previous term. However, the work was later accelerated under the current administration.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, the water system has now been tested and commissioned upon the project’s completion. The commissioning ceremony was attended by the ministry’s State Minister Ismail Hameed and its technical staff, the contractor, the operator, Fenaka Corporation Limited and the island council.
The project includes 6.6 km of water network, two 60-tonne Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants, a 25-tonne rainwater treatment plant, two 350-tonne drinking water storage tanks and a 200-tonne rainwater storage tank.
The ministry said the next step is to hand over the system to the operator, Fenaka Corporation Limited.
Static Company Pvt Ltd was contracted to build water and sewerage systems in 11 islands under a USD 1.03 million project.
Holhudhoo has a population of more than 1,400 people.
