Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated the housing units built under housing projects conducted by the current administration will be allocated based on the income of individuals.
Speaking at the ceremony held to commence the construction of 1,000 housing units contracted to Apollo Holdings Private Limited, Minister Aslam said previously housing units were being priced at the same rate regardless of the income of different population groups. The minister also noted individuals who generate a large income were previously able to compete in categories allocated for middle-and-low income groups, which made it unfair for people in need of social housing. He said the housing units built by the current administration will be allocated specifically for different income groups.
The 1,000 housing units to be constructed by Apollo includes different ranges of housing units. The units are to be distributed to four different categories of recipients. The project is carried out across different zones of Hulhumale Phase I and Phase II.
The government is conducting several housing projects across the country as part of efforts to resolve the issues related to lack of adequate housing, especially in the capital Male’.
