President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Jameela Ali Khalid as the Maldives’ ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK).
Jameela Ali Khalid was appointed ambassador at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
President Muizzu appointed Jameela as ambassador to the United Kingdom with the approval of the Parliament, in accordance with the Maldives Foreign Service Act, which provides for the appointment of ambassadors and non-resident ambassadors to various countries.
The President had submitted Jameela’s nomination to the Parliament for consideration. Following a review of the nomination, members present at a Parliament sitting unanimously approved her appointment to the post.
The position of Maldives ambassador to the United Kingdom was previously held by Iruthisham Adam. The post became vacant after President Muizzu appointed Iruthisham as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Jameela has extensive experience in foreign affairs. She previously served as the Maldives’ ambassador to Germany and has also served as Vice President of the Civil Service Commission.
