Tarring works have begun on Ameenee Magu in the section currently under repair.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the sub-grade work and started laying the ABC layer before tarring. MTCC said the ABC-layer work is expected to take two days.
The current repair section covers about 270 metres, from the Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu Building to the Dharumavantha Hospital Park. Utility layouts and bus stops are also being modified as part of the works.
The segment previously deteriorated quickly due to heavy buses and vehicles, inadequate drainage and the road remaining open to traffic during works. These issues will be taken into consideration during the current road repairs.
Once the current section is tarred and reopened, repairs will continue on Segment 2, from Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu building toward Ghiyasuddin School. The government hopes to complete the project in November this year. The previously tarred sections of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will also be repaired.
Under the Ameenee Magu development project, 1.79 kilometres of road was developed. The former government spent USD 5..47 million on the project, with the project concluding in January 2024.
