Adhaalath Party elects two new vice presidents

Adhaalath Party (AP) has elected two new vice presidents.

AP elected new vice presidents at its third national congress, held online due to COVID-19 restrictions. The new vice presidents elected to the party are Mohamed Iaad Hameed and Dr. Naushad Mohamed. With the latest election, AP will have three vice presidents, including incumbent Vice President Ahmed Shareef.

During the congress, AP also elected new members to its judges’ council, youth council and women’s council. The party also carried out deliberations on amending the party regulations and structure during the ongoing congress.

The last day of AP’s congress is March 14. The amendments to regulations and structure will be passed during the last session of the congress. This is the first time a political party has carried out its congress online.

AP is one of the coalition partners of the current administration. In January this year, the party elected Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla to another term as the President of the party.

AP is the third oldest party in the Maldives, after Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP). AP was officially registered as a political party on August 18, 2005. According to the latest information released by the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM), the party has 6,436 members.
