Maldives Immigration has set December 31 as the deadline for expatriates who wish to depart from the Maldives through the emergency departure process.
Maldives Immigration introduced the IM34 Emergency Departure Form to facilitate the departure of expatriates who are unable to renew their visas due to the COVID-19 situation. As such, Immigration stated expatriates who entered the Maldives on a work visa or other visa and are unable to renew it are required to fill the Application for Emergency Departure and submit it to the Departure Counter of Maldives Immigration on or before December 31. Such individuals are also required to fill the Travellers’ Health Declaration form online before departure.
Furthermore, Immigration stated individuals who wish to renew their visas as they are unable to return to their home countries due to closed borders can email the relevant documents for visa renewal on or before December 31 to renew their visas without any fines. However, any individuals who apply for visa renewal after this date will be fined in accordance to the Maldives Immigration Act, if their visas had expired by then.
