Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has suspended Chief Magistrate of Maamendhoo Magistrate Court Ahmed Shukoor for two months.
JSC stated Shukoor was suspended based on multiple accusations of misconduct raised against him and the evidence collected on each of the accusations. In addition to handing a 60-day suspension, JSC has also forwarded the dismissal motion of Shukoor to the Parliament of the Maldives.
Shukoor is accused of having an illegal meeting with a defense lawyer in a case submitted to the court in April 2018, and collecting an envelope while the case was still ongoing. He is also accused of taking part in a political event held to gather support for a candidate contesting in the 2018 presidential elections, as well as publicly endorsing a political party in August 2018. Furthermore, Shukoor is also accused of disclosing a remand decision to the police prior to the remand hearing, and acting in violation of the code of conduct expected from a judge during the remand hearing.
JSC revealed Shukoor has been found guilty of all the accusations raised against him.
