Cable car project is not feasible: Planning Minister

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated the cable car project proposed by Parliamentarian Abdulla Jabir is not feasible or practical.

In response to a question by Parliamentarian Jabir on why the project to connect Kaashidhoo and Gaafaru through cable cars and the project to develop an airport in Kaashidhoo was not included in the ministry’s plan, Minister Aslam said the government will not entertain projects which are not practical. He said the public is also aware that it is not feasible to connect any islands using cable cars.

Following the minister’s response, Jabir expressed discontent over the statement and asked the minister not to mislead the public. However, Minister Aslam maintained his statement that the project is not feasible.

The idea of connecting Kaashidhoo and Gaafaru using cable cars was raised by Parliamentarian Jabir during his campaign for the 2019 parliamentary elections. Soon after his election, Jabir brought in a team of foreign experts to conduct some surveys and assess the feasibility of the project.
