Health Protection Agency (HPA) has eased the restrictions on vehicle movement in the Greater Male’ Region.
HPA had previously imposed a vehicle ban from 2000hrs to 0500hrs in the capital, as part of efforts to limit social movements and reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. On October 2, HPA announced the vehicle curfew hours have now been set from 2200hrs to 0500hrs, starting from October 3. However, HPA stated the curfew on all movement will remain in place from 2200hrs to 0500hrs.
HPA had imposed additional movement restrictions on August 22, following a second wave of COVID-19 cases in the Greater Male’ Region. The agency revealed the spread of COVID-19 was the most prominent among young people, who are the most socially active after 2000hrs. As such, HPA said the vehicle ban was imposed to limit the social movements of young people.
The ease in the vehicle movement restrictions have come following a decrease in the number of new cases reported daily. The number of active cases and the COVID-19 hospital bed occupancy in the Maldives have dropped in recent weeks.
