President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), Sheikh Yousef Hassan Khalawi, discussed strengthening investment and cooperation in the halal business and tourism sectors, as well as advancing the Islamic economy, during a meeting held at the President’s Office.
The discussions focused on enhancing capacity-building, increasing investment and cooperation in the tourism and halal business sectors, and promoting the development of the Islamic economy. The expansion of halal tourism was also discussed.
During the meeting, Sheikh Yousuf presented President Muizzu with a handwritten copy of the Holy Qur’an as a gift.
The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development is an international association operating under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), representing private businesses and businesspeople from 57 Muslim countries. The organisation was previously known as the Islamic Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (ICCIA).
Established in 1977, the association aims to strengthen trade, economic and industrial ties among Muslim countries. Its other areas of focus include increasing investment, advancing the halal economy, and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The Maldives is represented in the association by the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI).
