The second edition of the ‘Shari’ah Principles and Standards for the Collection and Distribution of Zakat’ has been launched.
Issued pursuant to Section 12 of the Zakat Act, the new edition introduces updated guidance to strengthen the collection and distribution of Zakat in accordance with Shari’ah principles. Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed officially launched the publication at a ceremony held on 1 September.
The updated edition incorporates several revisions made in accordance with the guidance of the Shari’ah Advisory Committee established under the new Zakat Act, which came into effect on 1 January 2026.
The Shari’ah Advisory Committee provides guidance on matters relating to Zakat collection and distribution under the new legislative framework, helping ensure that Zakat-related policies and practices remain aligned with Islamic principles. The publication therefore reflects the changes and developments brought about by the new Zakat Act, while providing updated Shari’ah-based principles and standards to guide the administration of Zakat.
The new edition is expected to serve as an important reference for institutions and individuals involved in the collection, administration and distribution of Zakat, supporting greater consistency and adherence to Shari’ah requirements.
