MTCC commences harbour repair projects in two islands

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced harbour repair projects in two islands.

MTCC said it is undertaking harbour repair and dredging projects in Rakeedhoo, Vaavu Atoll and Vandhoo, Raa Atoll. The state-owned company revealed the mobilisation of harbour repair and dredging of the project in Vandhoo was launched on June 20, while a project team was mobilised to Raakeedhoo on June 19.

Detailing the projects, MTCC said the project in Vandhoo includes dredging and excavation of the harbour basin of 1,870 cubic metres, construction of a 75-metre quay wall, backfilling of quay wall with dredged materials and precast block installation. The project, valued at USD 388,900, was awarded to MTCC on August 26, 2019.

Regarding the project in Rakeedhoo, MTCC revealed the design-and-build project received Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) approval on December 26, 2019. MTCC said the project involves dredging and excavation of 5,645 cubic metres, construction of a 156-metre-long breakwater, a 164-metre quay wall, and a 74-metre revetment. The project also includes construction of 429 square metres of paved area and the installation of harbour and navigational lights. The project, valued over USD 1.2 million, was awarded to MTCC on October 1, last year.

Despite the challenging situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MTCC exerted major efforts to continue the infrastructure and development projects across the country.
