MRC Migrant Relief Fund raises over USD 84,000 in donations

Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) has revealed USD 84,306 has been raised through the Migrant Relief Fund set up to assist migrant workers in need of assistance in the Maldives amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fund was established with the purpose of extending support to vulnerable migrant workers, who have been impacted by the loss of jobs, income and shelter amid the COVID-19 pandemic. With the help of donations made to the fund, MRC has thus far provided over 100,000 meal packs to more than 3,600 workers in addition to providing hygiene kits, which include, soap, shampoo, tooth brush and toothpaste to more than 600 migrants in temporary shelters.

MRC stated 85% received in donations will be utilised to provide food for vulnerable migrant workers while 10% will be spent on providing them with sanitary and personal hygiene products. The remaining 5% of the fund will be spent on administrative expenses.
