President appoints Chief Justice, Supreme Court Justice and PG

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Ahmed Muthasim Adnan as the Chief Justice of Maldives, Husnu Suood as a Justice of the Supreme Court and Hussain Shameem as the Prosecutor General (PG). President Solih presented the letters of appointment at a ceremony held at the President’s Office this afternoon.

Ahmed Muthasim Adnan was appointed as the Chief Justice of Maldives as per Article 147 of the Constitution, while Husnu Al Suood was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice as per Article 148 of the Constitution. The appointment of Hussain Shameem as PG was made as per Article 221 of the Constitution and Article 3 of the Prosecutor General’s Act.

Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan holds a Master of Philosophy in Transnational Commercial Law from the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom. He earlier served as a Justice of the Supreme Court from 2010 to 2014.

Justice Husnu Suood holds a Master of Laws from the University of Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the International Islamic University, Malaysia. He was previously serving as the Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Enforced Deaths and Disappearances.

PG Hussain Shameem holds a Master of Laws in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, and a Bachelor of Arts in Shari’a and Law from Al-Azhar University in Egypt.
