Discussions have been held between the governments of India and Maldives to further expand trade and investment between both countries.
The talks took place during a meeting between the Maldivian Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, and Indian Commerce Secretary, Sunil Barthwal.
In a post shared on social media, Minister Saeed said that he met the Indian Commerce Secretary to discuss ongoing initiatives aimed at deepening trade and investment ties between the two nations.
As part of recent efforts to attract investment, business forums were held in three Indian cities to share information on investment opportunities in the Maldives.
India remains an important partner in the Maldives’ development, in infrastructure as well as human resource development. Two major India-backed projects currently being implemented in the Maldives include the development of the Thilamale’ Bridge and the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport. Additionally, India has also provided a currency swap facility of USD 25.94 million.
