Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun tarring the Ring Road in Fuvahmulah City.
The state-owned company began the project on October 24 after bringing changes to the design. MTCC said the changes were made following advice from Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure in an attempt to ensure the quality of the project.
MTCC was contracted the project to be completed within 240 days at a cost of USD 2.079 million. As part of the project, MTCC will tar 2.7 kilometres of the Ring Road, install led lights, set up speed breakers and establish drainage systems.
The project was reinitiated after it was abandoned by the previous administration after the contractor, Maldives Road Development Corporation Limited (MRDC), was abolished. The current administration contracted the project to MTCC, along with the redevelopment of the roads linking with the Ring Road.
