President assures swift action to prevent future tragic fire incidents

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured the public the administration will take every action necessary to prevent repetition of fire incidents. The president made the statement speaking to the local media after visiting the area of the tragic fire incident in Male' City.

President Solih, accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, also visited the victims of the incident being treated at ADK Hospital and the affected families being accommodated at Kalaafaanu School and inquired about their well-being.

Speaking to the media, the president assured that relevant authorities and non-governmental organisations are working to ensure the safety and well-being of the victims of the incident. He further asserted the administration will take every action necessary to prevent repetition of such incidents. He said that the administration is currently working on the relocation of warehouses which store dangerous and hazardous chemicals away from residential areas.

Vice President Faisal Naseem also visited the area affected by the fire and inquired about the incident.

The fire spread to some 7 building before it was controlled. A 46-year-old woman passed away in the most tragic fire incident in the capital city in the recent history.
