Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has accepted the nominations submitted by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and begins accepting applications for the vacant positions of the Supreme Court bench.
Following the consultation of President Solih to appoint Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Aisha Shujoon Mohamed to the Supreme Court, JSC accepted the names were forwarded in accordance with Article 17 of Judges Act. The president made the nominations under the powers vested under Article 148 of the Constitution of Maldives, authorizing the president to appoint judges to the Supreme Court after consulting with JSC and with the approval of the parliament.
At a press conference, JSC revealed the applications for the vacant posts of the Supreme Court bench will be accepted from 1400 hours to 1600 hours, Saturday. JSC has decided to establish a committee inclusive of all members of JSC to undertake the process of appointing 2 judges to the Supreme Court. The aim is to conclude the procedures and send names to President by Monday as specified in the law, according to JSC.
