President Solih officially receives Prime Minister Modi

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has officially received the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi upon arrival to Capital City, Male'. The official welcoming ceremony for the visiting Prime Minister Modi was held at the Republic Square.

On arrival at the Izzuddin Jetty, the Prime Minister was greeted by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, where they observed a cultural item by Maldivian School students. President Solih then accompanied the visiting prime minister to the saluting dais, and a 21-Gun Salute was offered; followed by which the national anthems of Maldives and India were played. Prime Minister Modi then proceeded to inspect a Guard of Honour by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

At the official welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Modi was introduced to the vice president, cabinet ministers, and other senior officials of the Maldivian Government. The members of the Indian delegation were then introduced to President Solih.

President Solih and Prime Minister Modi then proceeded to the President’s Office along with the cultural procession. Modi also signed the visitor's book at the President’s Office.

The Indian prime minister is currently visiting the Maldives on a two-day state visit where Maldives and India will hold bilateral discussions towards further enhancing existing ties, and development partnerships between the two nations. A number of memoranda of understanding will also be exchanged during the visit.

The visit marks the prime minister’s first visit outside of India following his recent re-election, in which his party, Bharatiya Janata Party, secured a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections. The visit also marks Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to the Maldives, following his initial visit in the November of last year to witness President Solih’s inauguration.
