Agreement signed to establish waste to energy facility in southern atolls

Ministry of Environment has signed an agreement to establish a waste to energy facility in Addu City.

The project was contracted to Lotus Kunwar, a South Korean joint venture company. The project funded by Maldives' Green Fund costs USD 16 million. This is the first project funded by Green Fund which is accumulated of funds generated from green tax, according to the environment ministry.

Under the agreement, the contractor will design, supply and install waste to energy plant in Addu city. The plant will be installed in a manner which waste creates energy.

Environment ministry revealed the contractor is required to complete the project within 15 months.
