MITDC launches Kaashidhoo Tourist Village Project

Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) has launched the project to develop a tourist village in Kaashidhoo of Kaafu Atoll. The foundation stone of the project was laid by Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer.

The Kaashidhoo Tourist Village project, initiated by the Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC), will be conducted in two phases. The first phase of the project will see the development of three guesthouses of 60 beds each. MITDC revealed the Kaashidhoo Tourist Village, upon completion would have 250 rooms.

The government aims to facilitate the direct benefit of tourism season for the people of Kaashidhoo Island, Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer noted speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Kaashidhoo Tourist Village. Other developmental projects will also proceed at a fast pace with the initiation of the tourist village project, said Minister Zameer.

MITDC revealed the tourist village will be developed with pre-fabricated/prefab buildings brought from abroad. Revealing more about the project, Managing Director of MITDC Mohamed Shahid assured the Kaashidhoo Tourist Village will be in operation within six months. Water sports and other sport facilities will be developed at the village, according to Shahid. Noting the project was commenced with funds provided by the government, Shahid disclosed the long-term plan is to sell the buildings to interested candidates.

MITDC is a 100% Maldivian state-owned enterprise mandated to support and foster the development and growth of the mid-market segment of the tourism industry.
