Malaysian Company to Develop five Airports in the Maldives

Ministry of Tourism has signed an agreement to develop airports in five islands with Malaysia's Grypon Energy Company.

At a ceremony held today at the Minstry of Tourism, the agreement of the project was signed by Minister of Tourism, Moosa Zameer and Chief Corporate Officer of Grypon Energy, Dirk Quintin.

Speaking at the ceremony, after signing the agreement, Minister Zameer said that strengthening the transport network is a main priority of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration. Dirk Quintin of Grypon Energy Company applauded the Maldivian government for its efforts to develop the infrastructure of the country.

Under the $57.5 million project, Grypon Energy Company will develop airports in Kulhudufushi of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Funadhoo of Shaviyani Atoll, Nilandhoo of Faafu Atoll, Maavarulu and Faresmaathoda of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

All five airports have to be completed by October 2018, while the government hopes to complete Maavarulu Airport project before the end of this year, according to the agreement signed today.
