State Trading Organisation (STO) will soon open up employment opportunities for people with special needs and recovering drug addicts as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the company has said.
The programme, initiated in 2014, is aimed at providing equal opportunities for the most vulnerable groups in the community, according to STO. Since the initiation of the programme, the company has employed six individuals with disabilities. Recovering addicts are included in the programme after an agreement signed with National Drug Agency to assist them in the community re-integration process, it added.
Further details about the employment programme, including the number of job openings, application dates and other information, will be announced soon, the company said.
Public companies and organisations launched programmes to hire people with disabilities after President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom announced at the Disability Award 2014 that his administration would prioritise the facilitation of job opportunities for those individuals with special needs who wish to seek employment.
