More than 500 people who were allocated plots under Hulhumale' Phase Three have so far been handed over their land.
The Ministry of Housing, Infrastructure and Urban Development said that, as of 10 August, land had been handed over to 560 recipients, representing 80 percent of the total number of people allocated plots.
Following changes made to the Land Use Plan (LUP) for Hulhumale' Phase Three, the designated areas for 698 allocated plots have been revised.
As part of these changes, the draw to determine the areas, or plots, where the allocated land would be located was conducted on 20 December last year. The land handover process began on 26 March this year.
The land handover process is being carried out after recipients request registration of their plots. The Housing Ministry said the registration is prepared before the land is handed over, and that work is currently under way to complete the handover of the remaining plots as soon as possible.
Under the Hulhumale' Phase Three plot allocation, 181 plots measure 1,650 square feet, while 242 plots measure 2,050 square feet. A further 132 plots measure 2,450 square feet, 62 plots measure 2,850 square feet, 41 plots measure 3,250 square feet, 16 plots measure 3,650 square feet, and 24 plots measure 4,000 square feet.
Under the landowner scheme implemented by the previous government, land was allocated in Hulhumale' without reclaiming the designated area. However, under the current government, 63 hectares of land are being reclaimed in Hulhumale' Phase Three, and work has begun to hand over the land to those who were allocated plots.
In addition to Hulhumale', the Housing Ministry is also continuing work to hand over plots to recipients who were allocated land in Gulhifalhu.
