Public Service Media successfully ensured that Maldivians were not deprived of the excitement of the grand football festival of FIFA World Cup 2026 by actively including them in the festivities, a commendable effort deserving of gratitude, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef stated during a special ceremony held to honour the presenters and analysts participating in the coverage. Officiating at the Television Building, the vice president noted that the network’s exclusive programmes conveyed significant information to both the public and himself.
Highlighting the analytical depth, he observed, "The tactics the manager will utilise on that given day against, for example, France, and the methods the manager will want to use to get Mbappé to score goals, all of these elements become known to us through the information provided by our analysts." He noted that this insight had become a cultural touchstone.
The vice president credited the staff’s rigour for the broadcast’s success, noting the inclusion of live Dhivehi-language commentary on the Voice of Maldives as a pivotal service for the visually impaired. "Because we are all included in this festival, and because you facilitated this opportunity for all of us Maldivians this time, encompassing all citizens across every island, I offer my most sincere thanks," he asserted.
Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb, Deputy Managing Director Yameen Rasheed, corporate board members, and senior management executives attended the celebratory event at the Television Building to recognise these operational achievements. In appreciation of the arduous labour required to perfect the broadcast, the vice president presented commemorative plaques to television professionals and radio commentators from the Voice of Maldives.
