President Yameen gives Fuvahmulah ‘city’ status

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Thursday declared Fuvahmulah a city.

The island was given city status by Presidential decree, enabled by the Decentralisation Act.

This change has now been published in the Government Gazette, and it brings the total number of cities, as designated under the Decentralisation Act, to three.

On Thursday, the President also declared “Ghaadhoo” and “Mundoo” islands of Haddhunmathi atoll as Uninhabited.

The President’s Office said the resolution has now been published in the Government Gazette.
