President highlights role of public attitudes in tackling immorality

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated indecency and obscenity in society cannot be reduced unless the public attitude and behaviours align with societal norms.

He made the statement on a social media post announcing the closure of 96 massage parlours operating under the guise of legitimate businesses, under a special operation launched on 9 December.

In his post, the President noted that such businesses exist because there is public demand for them. Citing a Quranic verse, the President emphasised that lasting change in society requires individuals to first change themselves

A special task force named the National Task Force on Combating Illegal Expatriate Operations and Businesses has been established to address foreigner-run illegal businesses. The task force includes key ministries and enforcement agencies such as police and immigration. It is investigating and suspending suspected illegal foreign-run businesses.
