Education Ministry on Wednesday said it has called for proposals on two occasions seeking a contractor to demolish the old building of Dharumavantha School.
Due to structural damage caused by age, the Education Ministry moved the school to a temporary building before the start of the current Academic Year. It also announced that work to demolish the old building, to make way for a new one, will commence this year.
Ibrahim Ismail Ali, Senior Policy Executive at the Education Ministry, told PSM News that preparations are underway to commence the new Dharumavantha School building project in 2017. He said that “the project is currently in the design phase,” and added that “the old building is currently used to store equipment acquired for schools in the atolls”.
According to the Ministry, the new building is planned to accommodate 1,500 students, with 30 to 40 classrooms.
