US starts militarisation in South China Sea: Turkish politician

Turkish Patriotic Party Chairman Dogu Perincek says the so-called "South China Sea arbitration" does not conform to international norms and it is the United States that has initiated militarising the South China Sea.

He said that as a global shipping thoroughfare, the South China Sea enjoys a special position.

Perincek said the peace and stability of the region concerns the interests of surrounding countries and will indirectly affect other countries, including Turkey. He added that the issue of territorial sovereignty does not fall into the jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal according to the International Convention of the Law of the Sea. The application for arbitration is likely to complicate the situation in the region.

Some western countries, such as the United States, are not parties to the South China Sea disputes and yet they have been actively interfering in them, claiming that China is attempting to militarize the South China Sea.
