Minister Ibrahim: Essential Medical Tests Now Reach Even the Smallest Islands

The administration has ensured the availability of essential medical tests at healthcare facilities on even the smallest islands in the country, according to Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.

Minister Ibrahim made this statement during an interview with PSM News, coinciding with President Dr Muizzu's ongoing visit to several islands in the Haa Alifu Atoll. The president embarked on a three-day tour of the atoll on Tuesday.

Minister Ibrahim underscored that among the most notable accomplishments of President Dr Muizzu's administration since taking office in November 2023 has been the transformation and enhancement of healthcare services nationwide.

When President Dr Muizzu assumed office, according to Minister Ibrahim, residents of smaller islands had requested the capability to conduct essential medical tests at their local healthcare facilities. Today, President Dr Muizzu has fulfilled this request, ensuring that all essential medical tests are available at healthcare facilities on even the smallest islands, he said.

Minister Ibrahim elaborated that essential medical testing services were introduced in smaller islands through the deployment of point-of-care machines. He affirmed the administration’s dedication to establishing laboratories at healthcare facilities on these islands.

"Until they [healthcare facilities] receive additional space and equipment, the point-of-care machine policy will be utilised to conduct the most essential medical tests on even the smallest islands in the country," stated Minister Ibrahim.

Minister Ibrahim acknowledged the ever-evolving nature of the healthcare sector, noting that public concerns regarding healthcare services will always exist. However, he assured that President Dr Muizzu is committed to bringing beneficial changes and addressing challenges within the healthcare system, as much as the budget allows.

Reflecting on President Dr Muizzu's ongoing visit, Minister Ibrahim observed that the people are filled with aspirations during the president's visits. He expressed confidence that during his tenure, President Dr Muizzu will ensure the delivery of the development desired by the people.
